The Kansas City Child Abuse Roundtable Coalition's legislative agenda supports policies that
protect and assist Missouri's abused and neglected children and that prevent child abuse and neglect. The coalition's legislative priorities for the 2012 Session of the Missouri General Assembly are as follows:
In order to maintain national child welfare accreditation standards, we support protection of the current fiscal year funding to ensure sufficient staff and adequate training of staff in the Missouri Department of Social Services Children's Division.
In order to establish working families as a priority, we support funding Child Care Assistance at 130% of the federal poverty level for working families and 145% for families transitioning off Child Care Assistance, when revenues are available.
We support securing an appropriation for the Foster & Adoptive Parent Recruitment & Retention Fund.
We support protection of children in the care of others through creation of a comprehensive statewide process for national background screenings. This process would apply to all individuals who work, volunteer or reside (in homes that operate child care) in state-regulated child care programs.
We support solutions to address Missouri's revenue decline, including, but not limited to, the enactment of a streamlined sales tax.
We support revisions to the state's Rainy Day Fund to help Missouri access funding for disaster relief instead of accessing General Revenue funding that has been previously committed to other programs.
